Dear Miatta,

Firstly, congratulations! You inherit one of the most exciting briefs in government. Not simply because the UK is on a path towards becoming a clean energy superpower, but because you have an opportunity to tell one of the most important and positive stories of our generation.

The transition to clean energy isn’t just an infrastructure project. It’s a people’s project and one that the UK is already leading.

The technology exists. Investment is growing. Businesses across the UK are innovating at pace. Yet public understanding hasn’t always kept up. Too often, clean energy has been communicated through the language of policy, regulation and carbon targets rather than through the things people care about most: lower bills, warmer homes, energy security, healthier communities and future prosperity.

That’s where we believe the next chapter begins.

At Wilful PR, we’ve spent years helping purpose-led businesses turn complex sustainability stories into compelling narratives that people genuinely connect with. And we believe the government has an extraordinary opportunity to help the clean energy sector tell its best story yet.

Our wishlist?

  • Lead stories with people, not policy. Consumers don’t wake up thinking about net zero targets. They think about their soaring monthly bills, their family’s future and whether they can trust the choices in front of them. Make clean energy personal. The clean energy transition shouldn’t be framed around what people have to give up. It should be about what they stand to gain: affordable energy, economic resilience, cleaner air and a stronger Britain.
  • Celebrate the businesses building Britain’s future. Across the UK, innovative companies are creating jobs, investing in communities and developing technologies that will shape tomorrow’s economy. Tell their stories proudly and often.
  • Give the sector a simple, consistent narrative. Businesses, local authorities and industry organisations should all be singing from the same hymn sheet. Clear messaging from the government creates confidence, trust and momentum.
  • Help consumers see themselves in the transition. Whether someone is installing a heat pump, choosing an electric vehicle, switching tariffs or investing in solar, every individual action contributes to a bigger national story.
  • Be visible alongside industry. The strongest campaigns are partnerships. Government and business working together sends a powerful signal that the transition is achievable, credible and already underway.
  • Keep communication simple. The sector often talks in acronyms, technical language and policy detail. Consumers need confidence, clarity and relatable stories—not complexity. Every part of the UK is contributing to the energy transition. Celebrate local innovation, local jobs and local pride to make the transition feel tangible.
  • Give businesses confidence to invest. Strong, consistent and celebratory communication from our government won’t just influence public opinion—it gives companies and investors the certainty to innovate, recruit and grow.

The UK offers world-class businesses, talent and game-changing technologies. Now comes your challenge; helping every household understand why this matters to them. Because when consumers understand the benefits, they make better choices. When businesses have confidence, they invest. When communities feel included, they support change. And when government, industry and communicators work together, the clean energy transition becomes more than a policy ambition—it becomes a national movement.

At Wilful, we believe communications isn’t the finishing touch to the energy transition. It’s one of the catalysts that will determine its success.

Miatta – we’re rooting for you, we’re rooting for the sector, and we’re ready to help tell the stories that inspire more people to choose clean energy—and understand how government and industry are working together to make that choice easier, fairer and better for everyone.

With love, support and optimism,

The Wilful PR Team
